Tartan Viewer Help

Tartan Viewer FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

When I click on a tartan (.ttn) file Tartan Viewer does not open?

Tartan (.ttn) files should be automatically associated with Tartan Viewer by the installer.  If they are not when you double click on a tartan (.ttn) file Windows will ask you what program you want to open the file with.  Select Tartan Viewer from the list or programs, or if it is not on the list navigate to the tartan view install directory (usually c:\program files\tartanweb\tartanviewer) and select tartanviewer.  Make sure 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file' is checked.

When I click on a tartan (.ttn) file Tartan Viewer opens but does not display the correct tartan?

Tartan Viewer will normally copy any .ttn file is opens to your tartans directory before opening it.  If this fails you should recieve a warning and be asked to copy the file manually.  Your tartans directory will usually be located under 'My Documents/tartanviewer/tartans' and will contain about a dozen sample tartans as .ttn files added by the install.  Simply move of copy your ttn file into here - you may need to rename your file if you do not want to overwrite an existing file of the same name, but the file name itself does not matter to Tartan Viewer - the tartan name is read from the file contents.
