TartanWeb developed and produced the first broad based commercial and affordable tartan design software - Tartan Generator - over twelve years ago.  With work completed in 1998 Tartan Generator was released as a CD in 2000 and caused a revolution in the industry.  As well as being able to view over 2500 existing registered tartans (as compiled by the Tartans Society of Scotland) it enabled for the first time a user to freely design their own tartans for personal, organisational, or business use.  Many hundreds of tartans were designed using the program with many subsequently being submitted for registration and weaving.
